Frequently asked questions.

Hemp is a specific strain of the Cannabis Sativa species.

Defined botanically, Cannabis is a Genus of the Cannabaceae family which also includes the Genus Humulus (Hops). Within the Genus of Cannabis there are at least three accepted species including Indica, Ruderalis, and Sativa. Furthermore, within these 3 species are different strains, much like you have red cabbage and green cabbage varieties.

Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica are both species of the Cannabis plant that contain notably high quantities and densities of the trichomes which include such terpenoids as THC and CBD.

Hemp is a strain of the Cannabis Sativa species which, as well as having a higher fibrous content, has a notably lower amount of THC compared to CBD in the plant's trichomes.

Our products are derived from Hemp based extracts.

Both of these chemicals are classified as Cannabinoids: Terpenoid compounds found only in the plant Genus of Cannabis.

THC or TetraHydroCannabinol is a chemical found primarily in Sativa and Indica Cannabis species, with modern strains having exceptionally high (25-30%+) quantities of THC. It is the primary psychoactive component of the Cannabis plant, with subjective effects that range from: euphoria, analgesia (pain relief), anxiety, and paranoia etc.

As well as possessing potential health benefits that include: analgesia, reduction in seizures, appetite stimulation, and the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders etc.

CBD or CannaBiDiol is also found primarily in Sativa and Indica Cannabis species, however modern breeders are only recently beginning to breed strains that have levels of CBD that rival the extremely potent THC cultivars. While CBD is not currently considered psychoactive, it is physiologically active, and has its list of potential health benefits as well that include: antioxidation, reduction in inflammation, and analgesia.

The short answer is no.

The current research suggests that CBD is only physiologically active, binding to certain areas of the immune system and endocrine system, and does not significantly bind to sites of the Central Nervous system upon ingestion.

THC on the other hand does bind to sites in the Central Nervous system (the spinal cord and brain) and this activity is likely the major psychoactive component which people subjectively experience as a ‘high’.

CBD activates the class of liver enzymes known as cytochrome p454 and therefore may interact with certain medications that rely on similar enzymes.

This is the only currently known, potentially serious, interaction that CBD has with other medications.

Always consult with your doctor before supplementing.

There are three points we’d like you to think about when considering Cannabis and Hemp products:

First CBD does interact with other medications, so always consult with your doctor prior to supplementing. See, “Does CBD interact with other medications?” above.

Secondly, you should always have a specific goal when thinking about supplementing anything into your diet because achieving vs. not achieving your desired results (as well as taking note of any unwanted side effects) is what quantifies and validates the supplements success to you personally, and ultimately decides if this supplement is right for you.

We see two primary reasons our consumers supplement CBD:

  1. Preventative medicine and
  2. Reduction of symptoms and/or side effects from specific illnesses or other medications

And Thirdly, always do your own research. Research has never been easier than it is today, and we here at RME believe that a supplement should never be taken purely because of a friend's recommendation, or a news or magazine article. These are fine places for inspiration, but we cannot exaggerate how much value can be found in personal research;

So, if you're trying to prevent a certain illness or keep yourself healthy, and think that Cannabis and Hemp products might help, do some of your own research, talk to your doctor, and if then it seems efficacious and safe, give it a shot.

Similarly, if you're trying to treat a certain illness or side effect, and think that Cannabis and Hemp products might help, do some of your own research, talk to your doctor, and if then it seems efficacious and safe, give it a shot.

We recommend somewhere between 100-150mg / day for preventative medicinal use, and doses as high as 500mg / day for more severe cases.

We don’t recommend supplementing a cannabis or hemp extract without consulting with your doctor, and furthermore we don’t recommend doses higher than 500mg / day for Adults.

We also have mentioned that CBD does interact with other medications, so again consult with your doctor.

However, current research suggests that CBD is very safe, and there is no evidence to suggest that a healthy person can “overdose” or take so much CBD to cause severe complications.

While there is currently no research we are aware of that suggests low to moderate and medicinal doses of cannabinoids are harmful to children or women who are pregnant, research is still in its infancy so we suggest some caution.

We currently do not suggest supplementing our products if you are, or think you are pregnant. As well as we also do not suggest supplementing our products if you are under the age of 18.

Our standard Rocky Mountain Extracts Tincture and Salve do not contain any THC and are formulated with isolated CBD.

Our FCS (Full Cannabinoid Spectrum) Tincture products do contain 0.3% or less THC by total Cannabinoid weight.

As an Example:

Our Standard strength FCS Tincture contains an approximate

2000 mg Total Cannabinoids

x 0.003 (0.3%) = 6 mg or less THC

And Approximately 2000mg CBD

The lowest dose of a substance that still elicits an effect is known as its “threshold dose”.

The average dose of THC that will produce the stereotypical high varies widely from person to person, and by form of ingestion. For a consumer that does not regularly ingest THC, and therefore does not have a tolerance to it, the threshold dose for orally ingested THC could be as low as 1 - 2.5mg. 5 - 10mg orally ingested is considered a fairly moderate dose even by regular users and would be sufficient for most people to achieve a ‘high’.

As an example:

Our Standard strength FCS Tincture contains approximately 5mg THC total with an approximate 0.17mg per dose.

Our High strength FCS Tincture contains approximately 14mg THC total with an approximately 0.46mg per dose.

Our standard Tincture and Salve products DO NOT contain any THC, and therefore they may be supplemented indefinitely without concern of failing a drug test.

Our FCS (Full Cannabinoid Spectrum) Tinctures, both standard and high strength, DO contain THC, and while the amount is very small and it is very unlikely that you would fail a drug test, we cannot guarantee that you would not.

So for those consumers of ours who cannot take any risk about failing a drug test, we recommend dosing only our standard Tincture and Salve formulated with isolated CBD.
